Native of Seoul, South Korea, Jarryn completed a Ph.D. in Historical Musicology at Case Western Reserve University. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Media, Society, and the Arts, summa cum laude, from Purchase College, the State University of New York.
He is writing a dissertation on the looks, sounds, and cultural histories of femininities in contemporary Korean pop music, advised by Dr. Robert Walser. In addition, his secondary research interests include the chant trope, the Venetian concerted music of Giovanni Gabrieli, romantic pianisms, and listening practices.
As a singer, he is a member of Case Western Reserve University’s Early Music Singers. He also performs regularly as a vocalist, keyboardist, and producer with a number of local and regional groups.
