On November 6th at 4 PM in Harkness Chapel CWRU’s own Dr. Ross Duffin will be presenting “How Equal Temperament Ruined Harmony (and why you should care)” as a part of the 2009 Musicology Colloquium. Dr. Duffin’s scholarly work includes articles in many major journals concerning music from the 13th to the 18th centuries, online articles on historical tuning systems, a catalog of musical subjects at the Cleveland Museum of Art, as well as editions of music from the 15th to the 17th centuries.
On Oct. 23rd 8 students from CWRU, CIM, and CIA all gathered on the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus for one full day to create a music video. They wrote the song, mixed and edited it, filmed the video, and put it all together in roughly 7 hours. We’re all very proud of them!
The CWRU Music Department is pleased to announce that we have a new senior tenure-track faculty position in Musicology available beginning in 2010-11, with a specialization in Popular Music Studies. The successful candidate will have an established scholarly record in popular music studies and will have demonstrated teaching expertise in areas that may include history and analysis, cultural studies, and technology. Case Music Faculty member Ross W. Duffin recently returned from New York where he gave two presentations at Juilliard to students that had been assigned to read his book, “How Equal Temperament ruined Harmony (and why you should care).” The sessions went very well and Duffin was pleased to see among the participants, Joan Nadal, the first recipient of CWRU’s Early Music Certificate for CIM students.
