Graduate Student Lawler Works to Unveil Rare Archival Recordings for Centennial Celebration of The Cleveland Orchestra

PhD student and Cleveland Orchestra intern Alexander Lawler, has been working with the orchestra efforts to unveil rare archival material for its centennial celebration. 

From “The task of analyzing the hundreds of available recordings and creating audio excerpts, writing essays, and tying it all together under the philosophical umbrella of Prometheus, the mythological titan who gave mankind the gift of fire, lies with Alexander Lawler, a doctoral student at Case Western Reserve University.

“It’s a complicated game, a real challenge,” Lawler said of the curatorial process, which includes selecting related historical documents and artwork. “But it’s also a real privilege.”

Although less than 25-percent complete, the project in its current is already a rich resource.
