“The Newly-Discovered Leuven Chansonnier”

Harkness Chapel (11200 Bellflower Road, Cleveland, OH)

Earlier this year, the discovery of a new fifteenth-century songbook (chansonnier) was announced (https://nieuws.kuleuven.be/en/content/2017/unique-songbook-discovered-like-finding-twelve-new-drawings-by-rubens). There are only a handful of such manuscripts from the fifteenth century so its appearance was greeted with wide interest. Among the chansons preserved in the manuscript are twelve anonymous “unica” — ballades, virelais, and rondeaux that are unknown from any other source. The CWRU Collegium Musicum will present a concert featuring all twelve of the previously unknown pieces, using voices, vielle, rebec, lute, harp, and recorder.

Free and open to the public. Paid parking available in the Ford Ave. parking garage or at the meters along Bellflower Road and East. Blvd.
